The practical significance of the association’s establishment:
Serious indoor air pollution is a key issue that has affected health and living spaces for many years and causes severe harm to human health. For example, the large volumes of formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, hydrazine and VOC volatiles released by chemical paints and synthetic wooden furnitures used during home decor and renovations, as well as toxins released from mildew as a result of humid climates have all been classified as carcinogens by the World Health Organization and are the main causes of indoor air pollution.
Many scientific experiments have proven that these chemical volatiles and mycotoxins can cause severe harm to children’s intellectual and growth development, as well as to cardiovascular and nervous systems of adults. Pollutants from indoor furnishings is also the main inducing factor of blood cancer in children.
According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV), inspection data from an Authority indicates that the volume of formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, hydrazine, and VOC volatiles in newly-furnished homes in China exceeds recommended levels by as much as 80%. We spend 90% of our lives indoors, hence indoor air pollution has become a type of social pollution.
Therefore, it is imperative and imminent that we rely on science and technology to govern and clean our indoor air and protect the health of residents.
